Japan by bike

On my way home from the Arctic Stuart and I met up in Japan. On our bikes we explored for 2 weeks eastern Hokkaido, covering 700km, 4 National Parks and eating over 70 rice triangles. After that we stayed with Shelly in Sasama, a little village not too far from Mt Fuji surrounded by tea plantations.

The beauty of the North

I have been working in the Arctic for 3 months from June to September. In between I managed to squeeze in a trip to Germany and to the Lofoten Islands in Norway.  But the beauty of the Arctic is captivating. Especially East Greenland impressed me with its icebergs and stunning geology. In the Svalbard the wildlife is the main focus and I saw beluga whales, humpback and blue whales, loads of polar bears, luckily most of them from the safety of the ship.
